Bike to Work Day Was Fun, but Saving Energy Can Be Expensive
“While we didn’t stop to hug any trees, I believe we certainly came close,” Jeff said with a laugh. Chris met other cyclists at the State Fair rendezvous point and rode his mountain bike from there. Jeff & Jenny teamed up to make the 13.6-mile trek from Moore to downtown OKC. Around noon, the HD cycling comrades headed out to fill their by that time very hungry bellies. Chris popped a curb near the Murrah Memorial and everyone smiled. Two minutes later, the smiles faded to surprise as everyone stood around one very flat, completely useless tire. After spending the next few hours in repair mode, the group squeezed in a few remaining hours of design and writing time. While May 18 may not have been the typical day-of-design at the office, it was a day HD will never forget.
“There’s nothing quite like the feel of warm sun on your shoulders and crisp wind on your face to start off your morning,” Jenny said. “Biking to work is certainly a different and energizing way to start and end the work day.” Raise Awareness About Bicycling Help increase safety among cyclists and motorists Do you bike? You can help the city’s future transportation plans to include the needs of cyclists. Take a survey focused on metro bicycling. The survey will help the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments plan safe travel routes for cyclists traveling from Edmond to OKC to Moore to Norman. Let’s safely share the roads. Bike to Work Day 2007 was part of a national campaign to promote bicycling as a healthy and efficient transportation alternative. The League of American Bicyclists has recognized the month of May as National Bike to Work Month since 1956. |
